Al-Kawthar University Marks World Humanitarian Day

Marking World Humanitarian Day, Al-Kawthar University, in collaboration with Mr. Shoukat Ali Somoro and the Hamdam Foundation, organized a Mangrove Plantation Drive at the Zero Point Coastal Area in Badin on 18 August 2026. More than 60 students participated in the initiative, led by Dr. Shahid Raza Mir, Director Student Services, along with Ms. Hannah Tariq and Mr. Muhammad Daniyal Javed, Deputy Directors Student Affairs, coming together to plant mangroves and turn humanitarian values into meaningful environmental action.

The drive underscored the vital role mangroves play in protecting coastal communities, preserving biodiversity, supporting marine ecosystems, and strengthening climate resilience along Pakistan's coastline. As the organizers emphasized, caring for our planet is also caring for humanity, and initiatives like this one reflect the university's ongoing commitment to translating humanitarian principles into hands-on, community-focused action. The activity also aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reinforcing Al-Kawthar University's role in advancing sustainability through collaboration and grassroots engagement.

Together for Humanity. Together for a Sustainable Pakistan.
